Protest Over N300m Pension Benefits Turns Bloody in Edo

Since Adams Oshiomoole and his Deputy Governor stepped down from the Edo State House office, different protests have rocked the state as a result of the 300m pension given to the ex-governor and deputy.

Members of the Civil Society were protesting over the pension entitlement bill passed by the Edo State House of Assembly for former governor, Adams Oshiomhole and his deputy, Dr Pius Odubu, to build N200 million and N100 million mansion at any location of their choice.

Trouble, however, started mid way when suspected thugs obviously in support of the bill clashed with members of the civil society group who had embarked on the peaceful protest according to the Leadership.

The suspected thugs who gathered in their hundreds and armed with dangerous weapons unleashed mayhem on the protesters as passers-by ran for their dear lives.

Speaking on behalf of the protesters, Comrade Omobude Agho lamented the disruption of the protest and attack by the thugs allegedly sponsored by the state government.

According to Omobude, “You saw how they destroyed cars, I was beaten mercilessly and same with other comrades. We are shocked to see member of the government pasted following them and giving them instructions on what to do."
