A group of people have staged a protest against the arrest of judges by the operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) some few weeks back, Leadership reports.
The group, which included lawyers and those who appear to be judiciary employees, carried banners that described the DSS’s action as a breach of human rights.

According to them, arresting judicial officers for doing their job is a disrespect to the rule of law and a breach of the rights of the judges arrested.
The group said in a banner that ‘attack on judges who granted bail on bailable offences against government’s wish is an attempt to silence the judiciary’.

Premium Times reports that the lawyers numbering thousands stormed the streets of Abuja, in protest of the alleged continued disobedience of court orders by the State Security Service.
The lawyers who were supported by members of the civil society community trooped to the Federal High Court Headquarters in Maitama, the Attorney General’s office, National Human Rights Commission to bare their mind.
The lawyers, who do not want judges to step down from cases involving the SSS as that would amount to victory for tyranny and intimidation, also demanded that all judiciary workers to go on strike until the SSS obeys all pending judgments.
Last week a protest was also held at the Supreme Court against justices still sitting while their cases were under investigation by the DSS.

The protesters said there was no reasons for the judges to continue to sit on proceedings of the apex court when they were being probed.
