As part of policy to make Edo State the economic hub of the South South geo-political zone, Governor Godwin Obaseki has set up of a seven-man committee for the development of Gelegele seaport to container terminal.
Obaseki, who made the disclosure in his New Year broadcast, said Gregory Ero would chair the committee.
The governor noted that the development of Gelegele as a port and industrial zone was of high priority to the state, as it would improve the economic competitiveness of the state.
“I have therefore set up a seven-member high powered committee headed by Engineer Gregory Ero, to establish Gelegele, as a foremost economic and industrial hub in Nigeria,’’ he said.
The governor had during his electioneering campaign promised to among others to set up technical and vocational school in Gelegele.
He also promised to focus on women empowerment by giving them loans to grow their businesses as well as investing in mechanised farming.
He further disclosed that he had met with the minister of transport and had planned to make the Gelegele seaport a container terminal so that economic activities would be improved in the state.
