A pressure group, called Edo Youth Coalition has asked the candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and his supporters to accept the outcome of the governorship election and find a common ground for peace. Comrade Toju Igbene, the spokesman of the group, disclosed this on Thursday, October 6, during a solidarity rally by members of the group to the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Edo state council. The group challenged Ize-Iyamu to emulate the virtues of the immediate past president of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Jonathan who conceded defeat before the official declaration of Muhammadu Buhari as the winner of 2015 presidential election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He said: “Let us develop the spirit of sportsmanship, that is why we keep respecting Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. Haven lost an election, he was the first to put a call to Buhari to congratulate him. Let us develop that spirit. Let us develop that culture.” INEC had on Wednesday, September 28, declared Godwin Obaseki, candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the Edo state election after securing the highest valid votes cast in the poll ahead of his closest rival. Nineteen candidates vied for the ticket to the Government House, however, the main contest was seen between Godwin Obaseki of the APC and Ize-Iyamu of the PDP. After collation from 17 local governments, a final report from Ovia South West showed that the APC had 12,820 votes while the PDP had 8810, bringing the sum total of votes to 319,483 and 253,173 respectively.
